In a musical comeback that's nothing short of legendary, Big Hit, the Pasadena native and father of Grammy-winning producer Hit-Boy, is reclaiming the spotlight after serving a nine-year sentence. Saturday, December 16, 2023, marks the official release of his highly-anticipated debut solo album, The Truth Is In My Eyes, a 17-track emotional journey produced by his grammy-winning son, Hit-Boy.
The Truth Is In My Eyes stands as a testament to Big Hit's resilience and personal growth. After serving a 9-year prison sentence, Big Hit immediately returned to creating art with his friends and family, notably Hit-Boy himself.
The album, available via Surf Club, not only explores Big Hit’s experiences and ideas throughout his life, but also represents a unique opportunity for incarcerated individuals to experience Big Hit's debut project. It will be released on JPay, ensuring a wider audience for his powerful narrative, and his support of those still incarcerated. Proceeds from the pop-up shop will contribute to Defy Ventures, a non-profit dedicated to supporting formerly incarcerated individuals through entrepreneurship, personal development, career readiness programs, and more.
The album features an impressive lineup of collaborators, including Snoop Dogg, The Alchemist, Musiq Soulchild, Benny The Butcher, Mozzy, Dom Kennedy, J. Stone, and Jay Worthy, showcasing Big Hit's collaborative prowess.
Big Hit's unconventional business approach defies industry norms, carving new paths and owes much of its success to his Grammy-winning son, Hit-Boy. Spearheading the entire process, Hit-Boy not only anchored the release of his father's album but also pioneered a blueprint for black economic progress through strategic relationships and bold financial decisions, including fully funding the album and maintaining independence.
To celebrate the album's release, Big Hit hosted an art exhibit at Bottom Bunk in Los Angeles, beginning on December 16th and ending on December 20th. Fans attending the event had the opportunity to purchase an exclusive merchandise bundle, including limited edition t-shirts and CD copies of The Truth Is In My Eyes. The art exhibit also featured handcrafted pieces by Big Hit, providing a unique glimpse into his artistic vision.
Proceeds from the pop-up shop will contribute to Defy Ventures, a non-profit dedicated to supporting formerly incarcerated individuals through entrepreneurship, personal development, career readiness programs, and more.
